RETIREMENT PLANNING

Events of the last few years have had a profound effect on the retirement strategies of most people, who may have already had underfunded strategies even prior to these events. These events are causing many of us to completely reformulate our vision of what retirement means, and have resulted in phrases like "The New Retirement".

Add to the impact of these events longer life spans, the increasing cost of health care, the effects of the "sandwich" generation phenomenon (with multiple generations living in one household), ever more complex tax laws, and concerns over Social Security and Medicaire funding, and retirement strategies become increasingly complex to design.

For most of us, gone are the "good old days" of a gold watch and nice pension at retirement. The concern is no longer living long enough to enjoy what we have accumulated, but rather, outliving our savings.

While most conversations about retirement include a conversation about money and savings, this is only one component to a retirement strategy. Equally as germaine to the conversation are the transition from an active, working lifestyle to a retirement lifestyle, location, residence, meaningful activity, self-worth, physical and spititual health, accomodating "sandwich" family needs, and many other factors. Indeed, the need for income is dictated first by these decisions.

Fortunately for our clients in Central Florida, our local MetLife offices have teams of representatives that have many resources to assist our clients in reviewing, developing and redeveloping their retirement strategies.

Since a retirement strategy is impacted by so many factors, it is always a "work in progress" - even during post-retirement years. For this reason, our representatives meet regularly with our clients, making sure that their strategies are up to date.

For more information on retirement strategies, please take a few minutes to peruse our website for newsletters, articles and e-seminars. You may also want to research our Mature Market Institute website at www.maturemarketinstitute.com.
